This week we recorded the Champions Dinner. The dinner is put on by the optimists club and they recognize students and other citizens for doing great things in SCS. The students who were recognized earned a scholarship for $12,000 and the citizens earned a medal and plaque. One of the people I remember most was the man who payed for multiple soldiers funerals, and something on his bucket list was to host a funeral at the tomb of the unknown soldier.
I have wanted to give up on tasks before, some I have and some I haven't. After reading the article the thing that really stuck to me was giving up who you were in the past. I really agree with that, because who you WERE doesn't have to define who you ARE. You could have been a drug addict in the past but turn your life around and become a doctor. You would have to really want it and it would take a lot of time but you could leave your past behind. I did not intern this week, but I will be asking if they need my help upcoming week. if they do not my last day interning will be May 16. This week was budget hearing week, where council people talked for a long time about money and budgets for the city. I was extremely surprised at how long they could talk about the budgeting for a golf course. I also learned that this city does not have as much money as you think it would. During the meetings I switched between graphics and camera switching with another intern they have, Eric, who works for channel seven doing the same thing. It was cool to talk with him because since he works for a news station he told a lot of interesting things about how the business works.
Out of the 15 traits for an ideal employer I chose Passionate. I chose this because just like it says in the article, if you are passionate about what you do, you never have to work a day in your life. I have been told this by many people before and especially now since i'm a senior. I feel like I have this trait because when I go to intern i'm excited about it and want to learn more every time. This week I learned a lot about editing! My favorite part about video production. One of my employers, Steve, who is also the producer on a lot of shows they create, taught me how to edit using premier pro. He taught me how to create graphics, to crop green screens, and to produce a high quality video. They use a lot of great graphics from this website called Digital Juice that they use for transitions, animated backgrounds, even templates. I would like to use Digital Juice for videos I make now but it costs quite a bit of money.
Out of all the characters quotes I chose the one from B.M.O. "when bad things happen, I know you want to believe they are a joke, but sometimes life is scary and dark. that is why we must find the light." I chose that quote because it seemed like such a deep and meaningful quote coming from a game boy, but it made so much sense. When you are going through a rough time and life is scary and dark, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel and you must find the light. A piece of advice I received from Steve was to learn Photoshop and Aftereffects as soon as possible. It helps you to cut out the middle man and create your graphics yourself using your own ideas and of your liking. This week we did another council meeting on Monday where they talked about different issues in Saint Clair Shores. They discussed some issues about the roads here in SCS and there was a lengthy discussion about remodeling the Burger King on Gratiot. During this meeting I did not switch the cameras, instead I worked the live text computer that puts the graphics on the screen. So when you switch to a council member that is talking on screen you would put their name up in the lower thirds. Or if someone in audience participation wanted a presentation on screen, I would put that up.
The difference between a resume and eulogy virtues are that resume virtues are a set of skills or expertise that you bring to your workplace. Eulogy virtues are things that people will remember you as, such as nice, honest, or helpful. At the end when he says "those are the people we want to be." he means that we want to be the people that have found their passion through the pattern of defeat, recognition, and redemption. We want to be those people that recognize their failures and defeats and strive on to accomplish their goal. This week I was only able to get 45 minutes in, but those minutes went well. I was at the studio they rent out at South Lake where they have a green screen, lights, a teleprompter, all that you need in a small studio. I worked the teleprompter and we filmed a segment called Around our town where they go over events that are happening around Saint Clair Shores.
The atmosphere around me is not that exciting, if this was my permanent work space I would add some excitement too it. I would change the color on the walls and add some posters or such. This week went good even though I was only able to go into the office and work once. During that one day I worked camera switching during the city council meeting. Of course it was hard to learn at first but after the first hour I learned which camera preset was which and who to switch to when someone was talking. The other day I was at the school filming the open house and now I'm in the process of editing that video which will play on the announcements. This upcoming week will be difficult to get hours in because they're on vacation but ill see what I can do.
I thought Audri's video and Goldberg Monster trap were pretty awesome. It was cool to see her so happy after having a successful 4th attempt when she thought it was going to fail 30 times. Somethings that seems difficult at work that I want to excel at is editing. the editing that they do for the TV station and what I do at school are nothing alike. Hopefully I can get on one of the computers and work on editing for a less valuable production so I will be able to get a handle of what it is like and do some more professional editing. First week went great! everyone is nice and teaching me a lot. I hope to get a lot of experience out of this course and learn some valuable things that I can then use later on in the future. Some of the things I want to learn is to edit videos like a professional and work a camera like a professional and so far that's what i'm doing. I'm most excited about working on some of the on site projects like the picture below where we take cameras and record an event of some kind. One things I was nervous about was working on the camera switcher during the city council meetings because they are live on TV and if i messed up, then a lot of old people would be furious about it. One goal I have during this course is to record or edit a video and have it play on the SCS TV channel.
